You can easily apply for a Schengen Visa in Edinburgh to 16 different countries. If you are planning a travel itinerary to Europe and the most convenient center for you to visit is in Edinburgh, this list will help you decide which Schengen countries you can easily apply to.

You should know that, according to Schengen visa rules, if you plan to travel to multiple Schengen countries then you should only apply to the country in which you have the longest stay. If your stay is equal in all countries then you should apply to the country you will enter first.

In general, once you have obtained a Schengen visa you can freely travel within all the 26 Schengen countries as there are no borders in between.

Countries you can apply to in order to obtain a Schengen visa in Edinburgh:

VFS Global is the company which officially manages most of the visa applications for Schengen countries in the UK. Out of the 26 Schengen countries VFS Global processes visa applications for 16 countries.

The VFS visa application center in Edinburgh is able to process applications for 14 of those Schengen Countries. (You can find out more as well as book appointments on their Website.)

A Schengen visa can also be applied to two other countries in Edinburgh. These are not managed through VFS Global in the UK (see list below).

* According to the VFS website you can apply for a Schengen Visa to Italy at the Edinburgh center only if you are resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland. This rule does not seem to apply to the other countries on the list above (other rules do apply as you generally can only apply to the center/s nearest to you). Furthermore, at the moment, if you try to book an appointment at their Edinburgh Center for Italy it leads to an error page.

** The BLS international Visa application center for Spain is located in the same area as the VFS GLobal Center (only a 3 min walk away):

Spain Visa Application Centre
6 Dock Place, Suite 1A, First Floor Office,
Edinburgh, EH6 6LU

You can book appointments and find out more on their website.

*** The TLScontact Visa application center for France is located:

It is also usually possible to apply for a schengen visa directly to the embassy or consulate of the country you want to visit. Thats a possiblity you may want to explore especially if your country is not on this list. You will need to contact the relevant embasssy/ consulate directly to book an appointment or for further information.

I hope you find this information useful, especially when trying to plan a travel itinierary to europe. Do share your thoughts in the comments section below.

I love to travel. I travel for that feeling. When you stand in awe and insignificance to lofty peaks. The mesmerization of food you taste for the first time. Or when you can feel the history of a place in it’s atmosphere rather than reading it in a book. The list is endless. Mostly I travel for travel’s sake. I also love many other things. I’m developing my skills as a psychiatrist at the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK. I'm interested in science in general and physics in particular. I’m also interested in deep philosophical issues. Don’t worry I have a different blog Metascientist.com for all that heavy stuff.
